Domenic Valela

Born in Calabria, Italy, in 1950.

Valela has lived in Montreal, Canada, since 1956. He recalls sketching continuously throughout his early childhood years and receiving encouragement from all those around him; a deep-rooted affection for art naturally developed. Later in his teens, a technical interest began to evolve alongside his art. He pursued to acquire a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering from Concordia University but always continued to take art courses to keep an inner balance.

In 1999, a brief illness jolted him enough that his convalescence became the catalyst needed to prioritize his true love of art. In the next two years, he devoted all his free time to cutting the umbilical cord of pure realistic painting, releasing him to explore the creative process of figurative and abstract art. His artistic appetite was nourished with alternate colour palettes, various medium applications, textured canvases and spontaneity.
